Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
