Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
