The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in ‘53 and started playing poker before becomming a teenager.
The young gambler began betting gin and at the age of ten had won his primary gin rummy tournament, while on vacation with his parents. By the age of fourteen the small poker genius had turned pro and stopped going to school.
In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the history books by winning $10,000 in a gin tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still remains in New York these days.
The quick speaking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to athletic greats such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu had a genuine talent for playing poker but despite his achievements in Hold em poker, he favored playing gin.
Stu once said that there may some day be a improved No Limit Texas holdem gambler than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a far better gin player.
In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the global map as one of the ideal Hold em Poker players in the globe when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the very first time. Astonishingly it was the 1st time he had entered the tournament.
